Acropolis Mall Holds the Second Interschool Chess Competition 2024

Subhasis Chatterjee: The Second Interschool Chess Competition 2024 was hosted jointly by the Bengal Chess Association and Acropolis Mall for the second year in a row. Perhaps this is the only mall in the city that holds a major interschool chess competition of such a magnitude.


More than 125 students from 50 eminent schools including Don Bosco School, St. Xavier’s Collegiate School, Mahadevi Birla High School, Lakshmipat Singhania Academy, DPS Ruby Park, South Point High School, Calcutta International School, South City International, Loreto House, Heritage School, La Martiniere for Girls School, and La Martiniere for Boys participated in the competition at Acropolis Mall.
Award winners received trophies from distinguished individuals including Mr. Krishna Jha, Head of Operations at Acropolis Mall, and Mr. Pranab Bardhan, a renowned chess player and gold medalist at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta; Mr. Atanu Lahiri, an international master, Commonwealth chess champion, and CEO of the Bengal Chess Association; and Mr. Subhadip Basu, General Manager of Acropolis Mall. The celebration was made more elegant by the attendance of Vice President Shri Sabyasanchi Tripathi, President Shri Santanu Lahiri, Secretary Shri Antarip Roy, and Vice President Shantanu Lahiri.
A captivating seven-round FIDE Swiss League competition took place, giving students a chance to demonstrate their strategic aptitude. The event was only open to schoolchildren and was first-come, first-served.

The top three winners in the individual category were Anshuman Dey from Frank Anthony Public School (6 points out of seven rounds), Shreeyansh Kejriwal from Lakshipath Singhania (6 points), and Rihansh Pandey from Calcutta International School (6 points). First Lakshmipath Singhania Academy (17.5 points), South Point (13.5 points), and St. Xaviers Collegiate School (13.5 points) received the coveted Best School award. In addition, 40 trophies in all were given to worthy winners in each age group.
