Udok Performing Arts, a distinguished classical dance institution founded in 2003 by Bharatanatyam practitioners Moumita Chatterjee and Rajib Saha, who are both disciples of the esteemed Guru Padmashri Geeta Chandran, proudly commemorates the Golden Jubilee of Guru Chandran’s illustrious journey in Bharatanatyam. The celebration, part of the Prarambha Dance Festival, took place on September 2nd at the Gyan Manch Auditorium in Kolkata.

For the past 14 years, Udok Performing Arts has been instrumental in organizing classical dance festivals across India and internationally, including notable events such as the Margam for Seniors Festival and Prarambha for Next Gen Festival.

The Prarambha Dance Festival served as a tribute to Padmashri Geeta Chandran’s extraordinary impact on Bharatanatyam. The event showcased the exceptional talents of Madhura Bhrushundi, a Bharatanatyam dancer from Delhi and a disciple of Guru Chandran; Soumita Sen, a Bharatanatyam artist from Kolkata and a student of Rajib Saha and Moumita Chatterjee; Vempati Lakshmi Kameswari, a Kuchipudi dancer from Chennai and a disciple of Guru Sremoyee Vempati; and Nilopa Maitra, a Kathak dancer from Kolkata and a student of Guru Paramita Maitra. Each performance beautifully highlighted the depth and richness of classical dance traditions.

Rajib Saha and Moumita Chatterjee, the directors of Udok Performing Arts with branches in Kolkata and Sydney, emphasized the importance of celebrating the art form’s dedication and passion. Their commitment to preserving and honoring classical Indian dance is reflected in the festival’s successful presentation and the ongoing legacy of Guru Geeta Chandran’s contributions to the dance world.
